Weekend Showers

Through the last couple of weeks or so we’ve continued to see some very unsettled weather across the United Kingdom and we’ve even seen some flooding down towards the South-West of England, fortunately it looks like we’re going to have a slight break from the heavy rain this weekend, whilst there will still be some rain around it’ll be more showery and less widespread than we’ve seen of late.

As we move through Friday we’ll see some showers effecting Eastern and Central parts of the country, these could be fairly heavy at times, particularly towards Hull and The Wash area, elsewhere a generally dry but cloudy day with the best of the brightness likely to be across Northern parts of Scotland. Highs of 16c in the South and 11c in the North.

We kick off Saturday on a largely dry note, there will however be some rain across South-Eastern England and this looks likely to continue as the day progresses, perhaps becoming more confined to coastal regions through the later part of the afternoon, further North we’ll see some showers moving into Scotland, these will however be light and patchy. In between plenty of drier weather to be had with some warm sunshine too, highs of 12c in the South, 9c in the North.

Sunday will be another largely dry day away from Scotland where we will see showers beginning to develop through the day, these could be of sleet and snow up over higher ground, there will be more cloud around on Sunday too but sunny intervals will develop during the afternoon, as we move through the evening we’ll begin to see showers develop and move into South-West England and Ireland. Another cool day with highs of 11c in the South and 7c in the North.

Have a good weekend.

How Do You Solve a Drought?

Issue a Hosepipe Ban. It seems that the second hosepipe bans were introduced we’ve seen rain, rain and more rain across the country. First we had a week or two of heavy and at times thundery showers and now we’re seeing more organised bands of rain moving across the country thanks to areas of Low Pressure. It looks like there’s more rain to come over the next couple of days at least as we see an area of Low Pressure pushing up from the South, here’s how the next few days are shaping up.

Friday

Rain will clear North-Eastern England during the later part of the morning as showers begin to develop across South-West England, these will spread North and East through the course of the day but will become increasingly light and patchy as they do so, rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out across the South-West. Between the showers there will be some pleasant sunshine away from the Eastern side of Scotland where we’ll see a more organised group of showers. Highs of 9c in the North and 15c in the South.

Saturday

During the day on Saturday we’ll see an area of rain pushing up into Southern England, further North it’ll be generally dry with one or two patchy showers, the rain will become lighter across Southern England through the course of the afternoon and into the evening but as we head into Saturday night, a second area of rain associated with an area of Low Pressure will begin to work its way North into the far South-West.

Sunday

As we move through Sunday an area of heavy rain will push up across Southern England, slowly moving North through the course of the day, gusts of 50mph likely along Southern Coastal areas and exposed inland areas.

April Showers

It’s been a while since my last post and the reason being is that this blog is primarily a winter one, however the weather has become more interesting in recent days so I’ve decided to post this article.

In the last couple of days we’ve seen thundery showers developing quite widely across the United Kingdom and that looks likely to continue through the course of today, a weak CAPE & LIFT Index with sufficient convection will begin to develop this afternoon sparking off these heavy, slow moving and at times thundery showers, particularly across South and Eastern areas, showers will tend to be more isolated towards the South-West of the country. These showers maybe torrential at times accompanied by thunder and hail, weak wind shear also brings the risk of funnel clouds or weak tornadoes although these will be very isolated.

Through the course of Sunday we’ll once again see these heavy, thundery showers developing though I think Northern England down into East Anglia being the main risk area for these, although once again heavy thundery showers are likely to develop just about anywhere.

As we move into early next week an area of Low Pressure will push across Southern England bringing a period of heavy rain and strong winds to the far South, this unsettled weather is expected to continue for the remainder of the month.
