Why are we not able to comment on your emphatic no with regards to a big freeze this winter? Many forecasters are predicting significant amounts of snow in their long range forecasts; are you not worried your statement of ridiculous and untrue will come to bite you should the headlines prove true?
You should be able to comment, I haven’t disabled commenting on that article as someone else has already commented so I’m not sure whats going on with that, I’ll look into it!
They may well come true, but given the hundreds of articles over the years claiming the same thing, they’re bound to get it right sooner or later aren’t they? If I forecasted 100mph winds in London every year for the rest of my life, chances are I will end up eventually getting it right. The Express and Daily Mail printed exactly the same scaremongering articles last year warning of a big winter freeze, last winter was above average.
The articles and headlines are aimed to sell papers with quotes from obscure amateur forecasters who just so happen to be predicting extreme snowy conditions. Predicting the specifics months in advance simply is not scientifically possible.
I understand your point but surely you would have been better just highlighting the scaremongering rather than state it will not be a severe winter. The MET have indicated that it could possibly be a severe winter with extreme temperatures; hardly amateur forecasting
BBC Weather – Monthly Outlook – 10 – 16 December indicates colder than average temperatures however they have tamed back on their initial comments. Additionally BBC had a video last week stating cold weather and snow to come with predicted temperatures dow to minus 15 in parts of the highlands. Will try to see if I can find it but generally the Beeb are good at backtracking
Suppose we’ll have to wait and see….its way colder than average just now and falling, along with the record snow levels between Scandanavia and Russia at the moment which if we get easterlies over the coming weeks, this has been forecast, would be pretty severe for us if it plays out that way
I can’t but feel you are way out of your depth Kevin. Forgive me if i’m wrong, but unless you have some sort of experience in predicting the weather you are making assumptions back with no scientific knowledge.

Are you telling me to sod off?
Well going in the loft to dig out the Christmas decks 🎅 West Sussex is so cold this morning first hard frost of the winter I do hope we get snow this Christmas winter 10/11 was so snowy up to two feet in our garden let it snow let it snow let it snow ⛄❄❄❄❄❄⛄
It is deffinately alot colder this November / December than it was last year (or than I remember it being). I am hoping for some snow (as most of us seem to be!) but I hope none at begining of January, have to travel from North to South to see a friend.
As for the website, take no notice of the trolls, I love how you go into details and then try and explain them in Laymens terms which I deffinately need! Also with every update I try to understand the professional speak rather than the easy to read stuff as I love trying to learn or understand new things.
Keep up the good work and look forward to further updates especially if they bring snow!
There’s no snow risk for Northern Ireland, hence no mention. I have dedicated weather charts for Ireland and Northern Ireland, when the risk represents itself they will be posted onto the blog
Well snow lovers the fun begins around middle of next week, looks like your prediction is correct this will be the month for snow, hope it will go up to xmas
Snow time over 😦 which goes to show just how hard it is to predict the uk weather! Daniel does very well concidering how changeable our weather can be,yes its going to be cold, pity the High pressure did’nt stay wear it is now,ok so its back to the usual wet and mild weather by the end of the week,at least for now.

Can you link me to where they’ve said this? As far as I’m aware, the Met Office don’t produce seasonal forecasts or comment about future seasons

I wouldn’t call that a “Big Freeze”, though.

Do you mean December as opposed to November???
Woops! Yes I do, thanks for pointing that out
